Burns Joins Calhoun as New Baseball Coach
 Calhoun Community College President Dr. Marilyn Beck today announced the selection of Mike Burns as the college’s new head baseball coach. Burns officially begins his new duties at Calhoun on August 18, 2008.
Burns played ball and was an assistant coach at Calhoun Community College and graduated from the University of North Alabama with a BS in Health/Physical Fitness, and a Masters degree in Education. He also played professional baseball with the Houston Astros Organization in Burlington, IA; Ashville, NC; and Kissimmee, FL. Burns was an instructor for the Osceola Astros and the Ashville tourist baseball camps, and was named to the University of North Alabama Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002. He served as head baseball coach at Decatur High School (Decatur, AL) from 1998-2007.
In addition to coaching Calhoun’s men’s baseball, his new position includes teaching Physical Education and College Orientation classes as well as serving as a student advisor.
"We are extremely excited about Mike joining the Calhoun Community College family," stated Beck. "His unique combination of education and professional baseball experience are valuable assets to Calhoun and the students we serve,” Beck added.
