Calhoun to Recognize Local Aerospace Technicians

Calhoun Community College, in conjunction with event sponsors Boeing, United Launch Alliance (UAL), ERC, Qualis Corporation, InfoPro and Jacobs, will honor north Alabama aerospace technicians during the 1st Regional Aerospace Technician Appreciation Night, planned for Tuesday, August 19, 2008, 5:30-8:00 pm at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center’s Davidson Center for Space Exploration.

Keynote speakers for the event are Astronaut Jim Halsell, speaking on the topic “Historical Value of Space Technicians,” and Steve Cook, manager of the Ares project, speaking on the topic, “The Next Generation of Space Technicians.”  The event will also include several special presentations, including recognition of Technicians of the Year.

"North Alabama plays a critical role in the nation’s aerospace and missile defense program and it is important that we recognize the crucial role our local aerospace technicians play in the success of these initiatives,” commented Jim Swindell, assistant dean for technology education at Calhoun and organizer of the event.  “This event will provide a forum for the community to honor the professionalism and outstanding efforts on behalf of the U.S. Aerospace and Defense mission,” Swindell added.
