Part-Time Position Opening

Full-time Temporary EMS Instructor
(appointment not to exceed a year)
(1 Position)

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. A minimum of an Associate's degree with a certificate in EMT at the Paramedic level from an accredited institution is required.
  2. A minimum of three (3) years pre-hospital care experience as a paramedic is required .
  3. Certification as a Paramedic licensed in the State of Alabama or subject to a reciprocity agreement with the State of Alabama is required .
  4. Current certification as an Instructor in ACLS, BCLS, ITLS, and PALS is required .
  5. Successful completion of an approved DOT EMS Instructor course or NAEMSE Instructor course is required .
  6. Documented experience in teaching the EMS National DOT curriculum is required .
  7. Competency in the use of current educational technologies in the classroom and willingness to develop and teach web-based courses are required .

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Facilitate the College's EMS Continuing Education program.
  2. Provide competent classroom and laboratory instruction in the area of credentialed expertise for both credit and non-credit courses.
  3. Evaluate the progress of students in all classes according to institutional, divisional, departmental, and individual criteria.
  4. Assist in the collection of placement and retention of program completer data.
  5. Collect, maintain, and submit accurate class records including grades, attendance rosters, absences, withdrawal, and/or class drop information to appropriate offices.
  6. Teach at varied times and places and in varied formats based on student demand; day or evening, in Decatur, Huntsville, or at other sites in the traditional classroom, telecourse, or web format.
  7. Prepare or assist in the preparation of materials used in academic administration when requested, including course syllabi, program outlines, course scheduling, and catalog material.
  8. Ensure that practical skills training equipment is maintained in a safe and acceptable operating condition.
  9. Participate in scheduled in-service activities, Honor's Day, and Graduation ceremonies.
  10. 10. Provide academic and career advice to students and promote student leadership and enrichment experiences.
  11. Be prompt and punctual in reporting for work. Maintain assigned office hours.
  12. Continue as competent instructor in the chosen specialty by seeking new knowledge, improving teaching skills, and updating professional competencies.
  13. Promote positive and productive relationships with service area businesses, industries, and agencies.
  14. Provide advice to the administration on matters pertaining to the instructional program.
  15. Serve on institutional, local, and/or statewide committees engaged in furthering the work of the institution or program when appointed or when elected.
  16. Become familiar with institutional policies and procedures as outlined in the College Catalog , Personnel Handbook , and State Board Policy Manual ; and follow such policies and procedures.

Hours per week: Minimum of 35

Salary: Appropriate placement on State Salary Schedule D, $34,414 – $74,454 (9 months); An additional summer assignment may be available: $10,626 – $23,026 (3 months)
