Roy Hoffman is the author of the novelsAlmost Family (winner of the Lillian SmithBook Award for enhancing racialawareness) and Chicken Dreaming Corn,and the nonfiction collection Back Home:Journeys through Mobile. A native ofMobile, he worked in New York City fortwenty years as a journalist, speechwriter,and teacher before returning to Mobile as astaff writer at the Press- Register.Hoffman's reviews and essays haveappeared in the New York Times, Fortune,Southern Living, and other publications.
