Benita Brooks
Systems Engineer, Intergraph Corp.
Miss Alabama USA 1995
(1990) "The scholarships I received were the focal point for starting
my journey. The skills I gained in computer and software applications and
electrical engineering gave me the foundation I needed to reach my goals at UAH. Calhoun
prepared me for the four-year university. With the small classes that Calhoun provided, as
well as the concerned and capable instructors, I achieved the framework to reach my career
goals." |

Dr. Shane Pitts
Assistant Professor of Psychology
Birmingham Southern College
"I have many fond memories of the time I spent at Calhoun, but perhaps
the most valuable and enduring experiences I had were those where I was encouraged to
develop and apply critical thinking skills. My instructors enthusiasm for teaching
was a great source of inspiration and generated active involvement in the learning
process. The level of attention given to students, and the respect shown for their ideas
and contributions are clearly a hallmark of the Calhoun experience. Maybe more than
anything, the experiences I had at Calhoun cultivated a passion for learning that
continues to have a tremendous impact." |

Bobby Allfrey
President, M&D Mechanical Contractors, Inc.
Decatur, Alabama
(1969) "If Calhoun Community College had not been here, I probably would not have
been able to continue my education. Calhoun offers flexible class scheduling for the
working person. With the concerned instructors, convenience of the campuses, and course
offerings available, my wife and I had the opportunities that enable us to be successful
in the careers of our choice. Calhoun is more aggressive than most colleges in meeting
community needs such as tailoring training programs for industry." |
