Systems Engineer, Intergraph Corp.
Miss Alabama USA 1995
(1990) "The scholarships I received were the focal point for starting my journey. The skills I gained in computer and software applications and electrical engineering gave me the foundation I needed to reach my goals at UAH. Calhoun prepared me for the four-year university. With the small classes that Calhoun provided, as well as the concerned and capable instructors, I achieved the framework to reach my career goals."

Dan M. David
CEO, First American Bank, Decatur, AL

Current Foundation Board President
(Outstanding Alumnus 1997) "Calhoun is Alabama's best two-year college.  The Foundation's role is to help the college continue to excel in its mission."

Dr. Susan D. Parker
Alabama State Auditor

(1990) Dr. Parker became a student at Calhoun when she was only 16 years old. After graduation, she was hired as a secretary at Calhoun and worked her way up through the ranks to the Associate Dean of Administrative Services and eventually became Assistant to the President for External Affairs at Athens State University. In 1996, Dr. Parker retired from her successful career in higher education to start her own consulting business. She won her bid for State Auditor last year and took office in January, 1999.

Assistant Professor of Psychology
Birmingham Southern College
"I have many fond memories of the time I spent at Calhoun, but perhaps the most valuable and enduring experiences I had were those where I was encouraged to develop and apply critical thinking skills. My instructors’ enthusiasm for teaching was a great source of inspiration and generated active involvement in the learning process. The level of attention given to students, and the respect shown for their ideas and contributions are clearly a hallmark of the Calhoun experience. Maybe more than anything, the experiences I had at Calhoun cultivated a passion for learning that continues to have a tremendous impact."

Dr. Rick Fennell, Outstanding Alumnus 1999
Resident Physician in Internal Medicine
Carraway Medical Center
"With the skills that I gained at Calhoun, I was well prepared for the workforce and subsequently continuing my education. Calhoun gave me a very good foundation upon which to build. As my career has evolved, I have reflected positively on my experiences at Calhoun."

Bobby Allfrey
President, M&D Mechanical Contractors, Inc.
Decatur, Alabama

(1969) "If Calhoun Community College had not been here, I probably would not have been able to continue my education. Calhoun offers flexible class scheduling for the working person. With the concerned instructors, convenience of the campuses, and course offerings available, my wife and I had the opportunities that enable us to be successful in the careers of our choice. Calhoun is more aggressive than most colleges in meeting community needs – such as tailoring training programs for industry."

Billy Petty
Petty Machine Works
Trinity, Alabama
(1960) "The technological training I received at Calhoun gave me a good foundation to start my business."
