Scholarship awards can range in amounts from $500 to $1,500 per recipient.

Criteria/Eligibility

  • Scholarships are limited to persons attending accredited colleges, universities, or professional schools of accounting in the state of Alabama who are pursuing a bachelors or masters degree in accounting.
  • Applicants must be part-time or full-time students who have completed the basic courses of accounting with an intention to continue in an accounting career.
  • Applicants must obtain a transcript from the registrar of the school showing grades and courses taken.  The transcript is to be submitted with the application.
  • The scholarship committee or their designated representatives may choose to conduct personal interviews with the applicants.
  • The applicant's need for financial assistance will be a primary determining factor.
  • Scholarship recipients will receive a letter notifying them of their selection, and they will be honored at the chapter's Student Night in April.
  • Scholarship awards will be sent upon notification from the school that the student has enrolled and fees are due.  

The check will be made payable to the school to apply against  
the amount due from the student.  
All candidates will receive an acknowledgment of their applications.

  • "First in My Family" - provides scholarship awards to Hispanic-American students who are the first in their family to attend college.
  • "Unmet Need" - Open to families with a combined income of less than $30,000 -this program provides a "last-dollar" resource of $1,000 to $3,800 when no other funds are available.
  • "American Dream" - Offers scholarships to African-American students with demonstrated financial need.
  • "Writers of Passage" - Awards winning students from a Historically Black College or University, or a predominantly black college, with a $5,000 scholarship - Universities of winning students will receive a $20,000 grant from The Sallie Mae Fund.
  • "The Sallie Mae 911 Fund" - Provides scholarship dollars to childrens of those who were killed or permanently disabled in the attacks.

To be eligible fo the Sallie Mae Fund Scholarship Program, students must be accepted and enrolled at a Title IV eligible, accredited, postsecondary two or four year university, vocational, or technical school in the United States or Puerto Rico and meet program-specific eligibility requirements.
