Allied Health Programs:

ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) This course of study is an American Heart Association program approved for continuing education credit for licensed paramedics, RNs and physicians. Transition to Paramedic Practice - ACLS Course Code: ALH 700  Course: 16 non-credit contact hours Cost:  $100.00 excluding textbook Location: Decatur Campus – Shelton Health Building This course is presented four consecutive Tuesday mornings from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 pm.  Students must contact the Instructor to coordinate registration and gain approval for admission. This program may also be presented on demand over two consecutive 8-hour instructional days.

BTLS (Basic Trauma Life Support) This course of study is an American Heart Association program approved for continuing education credit for licensed paramedics, RNs and physicians. CPR This course of study is an approved American Heart Association program providing instruction in one-and-two rescuer CPR, first aid for choking, pediatric basic life support, automated external defibrillation and special situation for CPR. Course Code: ALH 703 Course: 8 non-credit contact hours Cost:  $50.00 excluding textbook Location: Decatur Campus – Shelton Health Building Students must contact the Instructor to coordinate registration and gain approval for admission to the CPR course.

Heartsaver AED This course of study is an approved American Heart Association program providing training on the safety and use of automated external defibrillators and certification in infant, child, and adult CPR. Course Code: ALH 704 Course: 6-8 non-credit contact hours Cost:  $10.00 Location: Decatur Campus – Shelton Health Building Offered upon request on the third Thursday of each month.

24 Hour Basic EMT Refresher Course This course is intended for licensed EMTs and is approved by the Alabama Department of Public Health.  This program meets requirements for licensure renewal at the Basic EMT level. Course Code: ALH 705 Course: 24 non-credit contact hours Cost:  $50.00 Location: Decatur Campus – Shelton Health Building This course is presented in a combination of scheduled time frames best suited to coordinate student schedules and may include six [four hour] sessions or three [eight-hour] sessions.

48 Hour Paramedic Refresher Course This course is required for licensed paramedics and is approved by the Alabama Department of Public Health.  This program meets requirements for licensure renewal at the paramedic level. Course Code: ALH 706 Course: 48 non-credit contact hours Cost:  $100.00 Location: Decatur Campus – Shelton Health Building   This course is presented in a combination of scheduled time frames best suited to coordinate student schedules and may include twelve [four hour] sessions or eight [six hour] sessions.

Health Care Professional Certification Programs:

In partnership with Condensed Curriculum International, Inc. (CCI), the Calhoun Community College Division of Continuing Studies is offering a variety of Health Care Professional Certification training programs.

Medical Billing and Coding Career Track The Medical Billing and Coding Career Track combines the necessary skills of a medical billing and coding professional with the unique operational and customer service requirements of the Medical Assistant Administration professional. Through this program, students could be qualified to sit for the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) – Certified Professional Coder Exam (CPC or CPC-H Apprentice); the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) Certified Coding Associate (CCA) exam, and/or other national certification exams.   Course Code: TBI 600 Course: 70 hours Cost:  $1499.00 Location: Decatur Campus Dates/Times: Starts Monday, February 25, 2008 and ends Monday, May 12, 2008

Pharmacy Technician Career Track Program This comprehensive program will prepare students to enter the pharmacy field and to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s PTCB exam. Course content includes medical terminology specific to pharmacy, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names. Students will learn dosage calculations, I.V. flow rates, drug compounding, dose conversions, dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control and online billing and reimbursement. EKG Technician This comprehensive 50 hour EKG Technician Certification Program prepares students to function as EKG Technicians and to take the American Society of Phlebotomy Technician (ASPT) – Electrocardiograph (EKG) Technician exam and other National Certification Exams. This course will include important practice and background information on anatomy of the heart and physiology, medical disease processes, medical terminology, medical ethics, legal aspects of patient contact, laboratory assisting, electrocardiography and echocardiography.  Additionally, students will practice with equipment and perform hands on labs including introduction to the function and proper use of the EKG machine, the normal anatomy of the chest wall for proper lead placement, 12-lead placement and other clinical practices.
