Dr. Sonnie Hereford to Speak at Calhoun
As part of the cBlack History Month Celebration at Calhoun Community College, physician, author, and Civil Rights activist, Dr. Sonnie W. Hereford III will speak on Thursday, Feb 16, 2012. The presentation will begin at 11 am in the Brewer Library on the Decatur campus.
Dr. Hereford will discuss his 37-year career as an African-American physician in Huntsville, and will share insight on his participation in the local civil rights movement. In 2005, his 8mm film footage from those years was included in the Academy Award winning film “Mighty Times: The Children’s March”;
Hereford’s book “Beside the Troubled Waters: A Black Doctor Remembers Life, Medicine, and Civil Rights in an Alabama Town” will be available for purchase, and after his presentation, Dr. Hereford will autograph copies.
