Calhoun's Big Read

A common-reading program, to get hundreds of people reading, talking and sharing their reactions and opinions.

The BIG idea: to engage students, faculty, staff, students and the entire community in a vibrant, academically driven experience.

Read the book, start talking and bring your thoughts to the table.

Hit Calhoun’s two new reading nooks and join the conversation.  For more information, please contact Leah Vallely, QEP Coordinator at 256-890-4758.

Calhoun’s official BIG READ KICKOFF is scheduled for November 1, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at the Fine Arts Building on the Decatur campus.  Join Calhoun students, staff and faculty as they delve into the compelling story of Henrietta Lacks, whose life changed all our lives.  After we’ve read, we’ll come together for a dynamic discussion of the medical, legal, and ethical consequences of Lacks’ intriguing and important legacy.

Copies of THE IMMORTAL LIFE OF HENRIETTA LACKS are available through your local public library and at your local bookstores.  For more information about the Big Read or to RSVP for the kickoff event, contact Leah Vallely, QEP Coordinator, at 256-890-4758 or
