The 2011-12 Calhoun Community College Warhawk Student Ambassadors, representing both the Decatur and Huntsville campuses, have been off to a busy start this year.

The group of 27 students has been involved in a number of activities recently within the local community. They formed a team for the Light the Night event held in September at Bridgestreet Towne Center to raise money for cancer research. The group raised over $2,000, which more than doubled their $1,000 goal.

Most recently, the student leadership group conducted a fundraising activity to raise money for their annual Christmas charity programs, which this year included the adoption of two local senior angels, two local teenage foster children and assembling several boxes for the Shoebox Ministries program, which provides small boxes to underprivileged children around the world. All of these activities were done in addition to fulfilling their responsibilities as students and as Warhawks and working during approximately 16 events held on campus this semester.

The group is currently busy planning a major fundraising event for next semester, the first annual "Calhoun’s Got Talent" dinner and show to be held March 2012. Auditions will be held in early February. Proceeds from this event will go to benefit Relay for Life and other local charities.
