Calhoun Announces Events in Recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month


Decatur, AL (October 7, 2014) -- Calhoun Community College announces events at both campuses in recognition of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

On Wednesday, October 15, 12 noon, the college will host a Breast Cancer Awareness seminar in the Student Center on its Huntsville campus   The same seminar will be conducted at the Decatur campus on Wednesday, October 22, 12:30 pm, in the Chasteen Student Center. 

Speaker for both events is Martha W. Washington, a 15-year survivor of breast cancer.  A native of Athens, Alabama, Martha is a graduate of Trinity High School and Alabama A&M University, a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and is a retired federal employee from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Social Security Administration.

Martha attends the Church of Christ on the Highway, Madison, AL, and has a personal ministry of reaching out to others touched by cancer and life traumas. She readily shares how her faith has sustained her on her journey.

Martha and her husband, William Washington, are the parents of two adult children and grandparents to five granddaughters.

Sponsored by the Student Government Association and Black Students Alliance at Calhoun, both seminars are free and open to the public.
