Calhoun and Aerojet Rocketdyne Announce Scholarship Partnership
Aerojet Rocketdyne, through funding by the GenCorp Foundation and in partnership with the Calhoun Community College Foundation, today announced the establishment of the Aerojet Rocketdyne Scholarship.
The first scholarship will be awarded for Calhoun’s 2013 fall semester, which begins August 19. Applications for the scholarship are open to recent high school graduates or first semester students who enroll at Calhoun in a program leading to a career in the advanced manufacturing industry. According to Calhoun officials, criteria for eligible applicants are as follows:
* Student applying for a two-year technical degree. Priority consideration will be given to students applying for an Aerospace Technology major and/or Advanced Manufacturing two-year degree. Additionally, priority consideration will be given to a first year student – new applicant being recruited into a high demand field or a second year student/continuing student with a proven academic history.
* Secondary consideration will be given to students pursuing other high-demand technical degrees which support workforce needs in North Alabama, with further consideration given to students pursuing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) majors which address the workforce needs of North Alabama, particularly those supporting the aerospace industry.
* Priority to a student with demonstrated leadership experience or community service.
* Student must be a United States citizen.
