Alabama Robotic Technology Park to Host Open House: New Mobile Training Lab Being Unveiled

Alabama Governor Robert Bentley will be among the elected officials, business professionals, and education leaders attending the Alabama Robotic Technology Park (RTP) Open House scheduled for June 13, 2013, at 9 am.

The event will kick off at the Robotic Maintenance Training Center, Phase I of the RTP. Following comments from Gov. Bentley, Secretary of Commerce Greg Canfield; Sen. Arthur Orr and Rep. Mickey Hammon, attendees will have the opportunity to tour both Phase I and Phase II (Advanced Research and Technology Development Center) of the RTP.  Tours will be held throughout the day and will showcase the facilities; class offerings and the latest technology offered by robotics and automation vendors from around the world.

“We are excited to provide our community with this opportunity to showcase the innovative work and state-of-the-art robotics equipment contained within the Alabama Robotics Technology Park,” commented Calhoun President Marilyn Beck.  “I feel that those attending the Open House will be impressed with the facility and the impact it is making for our region and for the state of Alabama,” added Beck.

A highlight of the Open House will be the unveiling of the RTP’s new Mobile Training Lab. The Mobile Training Lab contains both robots and PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) used in training, educational and industrial settings. The mobile lab will be used to educate students from K-12 through college to create awareness about careers in the robotics and automation industry.

In addition to the unveiling of the mobile training unit there will be live demos and seminars and research and development activities will be featured. “This event is yet another step toward putting Gov. Bentley’s Accelerate Alabama plan in motion. The RTP is an integral part of the retention, renewal and recruitment of resources for existing industries and new industries looking for a home,” stated Ed Castile, AIDT Director.
