-- UPDATE -- Calhoun Offering Training Program In Call Center Operations
Call Center and other customer-service jobs are big in the north Alabama area, and Calhoun Community College is now offering training in this exciting, high-growth industry. Due to a need for highly skilled call center personnel, local employers Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Comcast, DirecTV, LG Electronics, Verizon Wireless, and West Corporation partnered with Calhoun Community College’s Workforce Solutions Department to develop a short term, low cost training class in Call Center Operations.
Through the college’s new Workforce Solutions department, those interested in pursuing employment in the call center field will receive comprehensive training to include call center operations, communications skills, sales skills, and professional development. According to Jim Swindell, assistant dean for technology education at Calhoun, the training program is 24 hours in length, and individuals may register for either the day, night or weekend option. “We worked very closely with call center and operations managers from a number of major call centers in this area in putting this training together,” Swindell said. “In advising us on the content and format for this program, the consensus was that it would be most effective by providing 24 hours of very succinct, comprehensive training,” added Swindell.
Among the specific topics to be covered are the following: effective communications, voice inflection, customer behavior types, the sales process,
managing objections, the job search process, resume basics, interviewing techniques, and the call center culture. Instructor for the training is Ron Owens, retired Director of Operations for Direct TV and retired Training Director for West Corporation.
The first training class begins soon, and participants will have the opportunity to take part in an exclusive job fair at the end of the training program. All classes will be conducted at Calhoun’s Huntsville/Cummings Research Park campus on the following dates:
- Saturday Class: February 19, 26, & March 5 -- 8:00am - 5:00pm
- Evening Class: March 7,8,9,10,14,15,16,17 -- 6:00pm - 9:00pm
- Day Class: April 5,7,12,14 – 9:00am - 4:00pm
Registration fee is $180 and the program is approved for Workforce Investment Act (WIA) funding for those who qualify.
